7.62 Target Rifle from the Lee Enfield Factory

Here's a couple of pics of the 7.62 target rifle I aquired a little while back. I've only had it out once for less than forty rounds, but after getting used to the globe front sight, my last group was under an inch at 100m with factory hunting ammo. Gotta be happy about that!

I'm hoping to contest a 400m match this weekend, the last string of which is a double tap snap. Five six second exposures, two rounds per exposure for a total of ten shots. I've assembled a couple of dummy rounds to practice with, but would like any tips on the best way to hold and feed the second round (the rifle is a straight pull single shot)

Well this is an interesting paradox. Your rifle MIGHT actually be prohibited here in Canada because of the use of the L1A1 lower. It also is unlikely it would be allowed in a typical Service Rifle shoot as it's a special target rifle. I know that someone who is more knowledgable in this area will be able to correct me on this I'm sure.

Son, Keep the extra rounds between the fingers of your off hand. After firing a round, pull a fresh one from between your fingers, open the bolt, insert the round and home the bolt.

Assuming you are using a sling, a plastic ammo box with rounds pointing down just forward of your right hand when the forearm is on the mat is how I do it.

Brad and Lithy- thanks for the suggestions, guys! I've made few drill rounds up and will spend an hour in the loungeroom practicing both methods tommorrow night. Watching the cricket test from Lords, I might use Flintoff's pointy head as an aiming mark:rofl:

No4Mk1 (T), as you'll never see one in Canada (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) it probably isn't important. It's developement was for the Service Rifle clubs (at their request) to try to keep aligned with the issue rifle of the time. It was definately the only rifle made that was exclusively for that purpose and it has a broad arrow and Lithgow inspection stamps on it too!

There were the Martini .22 target rifle cartridge holders mounted on the right of the receiver.

I actually thought about something like that, but the fear of marking the rifle put that idea to rest immediately. There's a mob that makes an elastic sleeve that goes over the butt with cartridge loops too. There used to be wrist strap cartridge holders about, but prone off a sandbag puts the off-hand under the butt, too far away.

You might alter one of those elastic sleeves to fit around the fore end.
As high as the sight line is the cartridge loops could be positioned on top of the fore end with rims facing to your right. That should put them within easy reach.

when I shoot a Mad Minute [Left Handed] I push the life rounds into the ground on the edge of the mat and load single shot. Ok if the ground is dry, which can be a problem here in NZ.

Son, does it have an official Australian nomecluture; as per our own L39A1?
