Schultz and Larsen M58 Rear sight
I recently purchased a Schultz and Larsen M58 custom in an Anshutz style stock and planned to use it for High Power competition.
I would like to use an iris adjustable aperture rear sight on this rifle, but don't know if I can find one that will screw into the 6x0.75mm threads that are on the existing sight. The Gehmann and Anschutz rears currently being sold are on a 9.5mm shank. I don't know if any Scandinavian manufacurers make Iris rear sight arertures that would fit the my existing setup. Failing that option, a selection of fixed rear apertures would do. The aperture currently in the sight is a 2.5mm.
There is no brand on the rear sight that I could see, so I would also would like to know who made this sight. It' like the rear sights I've seen on other S & L M58's and M69's and Schultz and Larsen may have made it and it works fine. Thanks in advance for any response.

Schultz & Larsen M58 Custom Match Rifle
Greetings Kriggevaer,
Thanks for the response. I posted some pictures of this rifle in photo gallery, under the title above, for all to view. I agree that I will likely need to get an adapter made up for the currently available iris style rear apertures if I am to use one on this rifle. I did get a selection of front apertures and have been able to use those to tighten up my sight picture to an acceptable level. Best 5 shot groups so far at 100 yds, with 2 different loads, is 5/8" off the bench.
I plan to order a Huber Concepts trigger soon and set it as light as it allows. The current trigger pull weight is 3.0 lbs. I could shoot this rifle in this weekend's club match and may practice with it tomorrow on my regular high power practice day. But I am reluctant to do so because the action still has one more bug. I don't know if I'm even posting in the right forum since this rifle is 6.5x55 mm, but is built on a Mauser 98 action. I think that combination is the reason for the occasional failure to engage the extractor when feeding a round. The 6.5x55 round is .003" larger diameter at the head than the 8mm Mauser round. The Model 98 stripper guide had to be enlarged to use 6.5x55mm strippers and ammo. I plan to look in depth at the extractor problem soon and see if I can remedy it with some work on the engagement claw.
Any suggestions on that issue? Check the photos!
Regards,
Bob
Clean bolt face and hook?
Kriggevaer, I have a Schultz & Larsen Type 69 (I think) match rifle: 6.5x55 heavy match barrel in an Imperial German Gew 98 action (NOT a K98). Serial number is 3xxx without any extra letters. That is old, old, for a match rifle action. And it functions perfectly after 100+ years.
I apologize if this is just too obvious, but have you tried scraping out the recess in the bolt face and the back of the extractor claw, to remove any possible residues? It doesn't take much to make a layer thicker than 3 thou. Use a brass bore brush, so it really scrubs into the corners without marking the steel!
