Inside the windage knob

Playing with a windage knob. I have this knob that is ruined and decided to take the parts out and install them in a knob that is empty. More work than I thought. I ended up cutting the knob part way thru and then chiseling it apart. And danged if the little snap ring that is supposed to be inside went into the twilight zone somewhere. Anyway here are the innards if you ever wondered. The little bumps on the nut fit into the dents on the smaller thingy and that makes the clicks when you rotate it.

If you notice the dog happily chewing on something, he found the snap ring for you. Otherwise get sombody's baby over, they find everything too.

I just went through a similar operation. I found a long gun screw with the same thread, cut the head off, and chucked it in a large pinvise. Threaded the screw into the captive nut, put in a few drops of oil, held the knob in one hand and the pinvise in the other, and rocked, rotated and pulled at the same time. The nut, snap ring, and the other thingy came right out. I did it because I had a trashed nut/mint knob and a trashed knob/mint nut lying around and waste not-want not. Looking at the gutted knob, would lock bar parts fit it? Not trying to hijack the thread. Stu

BTW, the snap ring isn't much of a snap ring. You can make one out of an old spring, like a mag release spring. Stu
