2 Different styles of late Escutheon nuts

Pulled the nuts from some beat up stocks I rob wood from for repairs and patches. Both were pretty rusty and just happened to be too close to a pile of butt plates I was fine sand blasting. That's why they show no finish in the pics. Notice both are the later type II long spline Escutcheons........ 1 has twisted splines while all the other Type II's in my spare part boxes have the straight splines.
The one with 'Twisted Splines' came from a M2 stock. M and Flaming Bomb marked in the sling well.

Anyone ever noticed this before?

Nothing earth shattering, just something I happen to notice.....

I have had over 5,000, new in wrap, and there were a variety of manufacturing differences. I have also run into some with different thread twists, and splines.

There were 3 basic versions (shape) that I know of (not including thread differences)

Regarding thread differences and screws, there is a defininte difference on how certain screws fit better than others. There has also been speculation on which came first, the fully threaded screw or the partially threaded.

Have an older I-cut stock that was received with a fully threaded screw. A partially threaded will not screw in with the same ease. However, I am unsure if the fully threaded screw was "worn in" over the years or it was the original screw for this stock.

Some have also stated they may have been from different contractors and this may be the reason for the differences. Forgive me for hijacking the thread Charlie.

It is not a case of which came first. The fully threaded screw was made by a specific manufacturer.

Bill Ricca: can you amplify on the thread differences? I have a couple of fully threaded bolts sent me by a friend and they clearly do not thread into "regular" escutheon nuts. They will start in a couple turns then get tight. He said he had encountered a bunch of them and is convinced they are US made not foreign.

I know that the Carbine Club recently made a provision in their data sheet for the fully threaded vs partially threaded recoil plate screw reporting. It would be interesting to know if the fully threaded was in use early on, or throughout production, and if each type required a specific corresponding threaded eustecheon.

I received 40+ used stocks at one time and only three of them from a single manufacturer had the fully threaded screw. They were not early more like middle to late. Just a part substitution during the war.
The fully threaded screw will bind in other nuts after about two turns but some of the short threaded screws will also bind in some nuts.
The different size threads is the main cause of stripped nuts.

Which manufacturer has the fully threaded screw?
