Inland w/Underwood barrel

This carbine was one of a batch that were provided by the CMP to local LEO's several years ago. He put it in a local shop yesterday. It is Inland #50250XX which some data says 1944 production. The barrel is Underwood 7-44 Ordnance bomb and P proofed. The FCG is S' G' and trigger stamped SW-B, the op slide is large S, the bolt is flat topped and stamped N ll on side of lug, the bayo lug/ band is AI, rear sight is I R CO 7160060. Blued mag is AI, the recoil block is without stamp, walnut handguard is 2 rivet stamped IO, the butt stock is walnut stamped .U. on left with the SN# stamped above it, O stamped under pistol grip...no stamp in sling well. Mag catch is cc over M, flip safety. I just noticed that the lug with hole for roll pin that is on the underside of receiver is stamped S.

The finish is a dark oil soaked park and consistent throughout. Rifle action shows little wear and the bore is excellent. I walked out the door with this carbine...$530 OTD.

Looks like the Israeli carbines that were sold by Century recently. If in good shape still a decent buy.

The LEO who brought this into the shop has had it for over 10 years. I have had the Israeli carbines that Coles brought in recently. Some had rack numbers and others had Birmingham Nitro proofs.

There were also some Israeli carbines that were imported into this country by an outfit in California. I can't remember the importers name but an abreviation of the company and location was stamped in very tiny letters on the right side of the receiver on the top rail where the slide tang runs. The last part of the stamping was something like "SAC. CA." for Sacramento California. I think they were very early imports and sold exclusively to law enforcement agencies at the time. Look at the right side of the receiver and see if you can see these very tiny markings. You may need a good light and some magnification if your eyes are anything like mine.

I have inspected this one closely due to the SG parts. There is no import stamp. Another LEO was working in the shop when I snagged this one. He remembered that the big city agency he worked for at the time these were made available did not purchase these carbines. The smaller suburb police force did purchase them and he was still a bit miffed about it. He and the officer who put this in the shop both work there part time..he didn't know it had come into the shop and when I brought it to the counter it was obvious that he felt it got away from him.

The stamp under the rear sight reads INLAND DIV.

There was a batch of these sold by GECC out of Sacramento CA to law enforcement officers. They were lightly marked on the right side of the receiver above the wood line at the rear. The writing is very small.

It is there, you can see it in the picture of the right side of the receiver.
