Not just fishy but a poor fake at best. At least the rear sight is correct for an IP. The stamping in the stock would also be fake. That's a lot of money for a messed up mix master.
I didn't see the stamping on the stock till after my post. I am getting some skills for this finally.
In picture #7 is that a stake punch on the left rear dove tail?

That looks like it has been around the block a few times. Seen much better at CMP for a lot less.
Yeah Charlie..that stake mark sticks out like a sore thumb. And I'm not real warm and fuzzy with the rear sight. I've handled a few L&S sights that had identical milling marks on them, but I'd have to dig one of guns out of the safe to compare before claiming it to be a repop. The barrel date is way too late for the serial number too; shouldn't be any later than 6-43. Not to mention that Inland barrels weren't used in Grand Rapids until late in their production.
For a very early IP an Inland barrel would be correct as would Rock-Ola or Underwood. The later ones also used Buffalo Arms barrels too but the main barrel used was Underwood. The Inland barrel on this one is a replacement.
Huh, the seller is about 10 miles from me. Maybe I should go over and do am "up close and personal" check on the rifle. :)
Notice his 'return policy..."as is". If I'm paying $6000 for a rifle that supposed to be "original", I'll be d@mned if I'm buying "as is" when the barrel band and rear sight are raising flags! Wonder what a real close examination would find?
