I have had 1-10, 1-11, and 1-12 TR barrels on my M14 over the years....and I couldn't see a lick of difference in how ANY of them shot 168's...it was ALL good. I currently have a 1-10 on the rifle specifically for Long Range 178 gr pills. YMMV!
It's not the weight of the projo that determines how it will shoot in any given twist. It's the length. The longer the bullet is the faster the twist required to stabilize it
Major Tom,
Have developed accurate loads in my 1-12" twist FN SPR using 168 - 190gr bullets. The 168SMK is a fine bullet for out to 600 yards.

A 12" twist will do very nicely with the 168 MK. Actually the 12" twist barrels stabilize 175 gr MKs and the 174 gr M72/M118 bullets with exceptional accuracy to well beyond 1000 yards. Actually my 14" twist Palma rifle shoots the 168 MK extremely well.

Have a 700 VSF with a 1-12, 168, 175, and Palma's if you drive them really fast.

The barrel in question is 30 inch long with 1 in 12 twist.
Heck.....that's a fast-twist Palma barrel!
So, is that a good thing? Chamber is for commercial 308.
Not really! Most Palma barrels are 1-13 or 1-14 so you can push a 155 gr ball out at something over 2900 fps. 30" is mighty long for an XC barrel, and the TR is wrong for Palma. It's neither fish nor fowl!
