Help before I break Something?

The safety on my Remington 40X is bent inward and the bolt is hitting it when the bolt is cycled. Before I try and straighten the saftey, does anyone know if the safety will break or is the metal soft enough to bend back?

Looks like a late model - check the trigger-If it has two screws in front and one in the rear a Mod 700 safety should work I think some of the later models used castings/ powdered metal parts and can be brittle- give it a try

Yes you can see the mark on the shroud. Remove the safety altogether it has no use on a target rifle Its either loaded and firing or the bolt is open.

If you insist on it being there it should straighten as its sheet steel.

Thanks, the safety straightened out fine.
I've never figured the MFG. date of the rifle out. Serial number is 20115B. Code on the left side of the barrel is NCL8.

April of 1964

I see how you got April 64 using the middle two letters. What has always troubleded me was the first letter(N) and last number (8) Do you know if they have any meaning?
