I had to have a Marlin......or two.

I love to hunt and shoot. Most of the time with my sporterized 1903 Springfields (2). However, the last year or so I really wanted a Marlin lever gun. So, after much looking and research I deceided to to by a new Marlin 308MX. This is chambered for the .308 Marlin Express. I put a Bushnell Banner 3x9 scope on it and can get 4 inch groups at 200 yds. I know the gun is capable of better (I need more practice). I also always wanted a Marlin 39A 22. So this spring I purchased both. I wanted to buy new so I can pass them to my grandson with the boxes and papers etc. Both rifles are extremely fun to shoot. And, both are very accurate. I have put many rounds through both and have not had a single problem with either. This fall I'll be using the .22 on small game and the .308MX on deer and coyotes. But until then I'll be at the range weekly, shooting away!

In my own experience I have always found Marlin lever action rifles to be extremely well made and very accurate. The .308 Marlin Express strikes me as just about perfect from the vast majority of eastern deer hunting. It might even be useful out west. A lot of game is shot well within 200 yds. As far as the 39A is concerned, between my brother and I we owned and enjoyed using 9 various models. My favorite was the full-sized 39A. I had one that from a rest would keep 10 shots inside 1.25 inches at 50 yds. It was unfailingly accurate. Your grandson will doubtless be thankful for your thoughtfulness. Sincerely. BruceV.

I'm glad to hear you feel the same way about Marlins' that I do. They are great guns. My grandson (7-1/2 years old) went with me when I picked up the guns from my dealer. He knows they will be his one day. I picked up a Cricket .22 for him while we were there. They had a few different youth model .22's to choose from. He liked the Cricker the best, so that's what he got. He likes to shoot but gets bored quickly shooting paper. So, I save plastic bottels and we fill them with water. The hold his interest until the bottels no longer hold water! He will out grow the Cricket soon and I'll have to get him something else. But, that's what grandpas' do.
