Utica Mk II Did I get burned?????

I bought my first MKII yesterday. Its a Vietnam era Utica MkII. Its marked US Utica/ Cut Co. I paid 45.00 for it. What do you all think?

FFAM1-Been collecting Mk2's for a while, have never seen a Utica in that condition. Usually they are in very bad shape ie-broken chipped blades, bent guards, messed up handles. Yours is nice. My old price guide has them listed between $200-$250.(Brown or coated handles). You did well. SKIP

Very nice knife, made circa early-mid 1962 at the time the change was made from brown to oxblood but the scabbard is still 9 rivet instead of the 7 rivet that became standard in 1962. As Skiph said, these are hard to find in decent condition. I have the earlier brown version but have been unable to find a nice oxblood version like yours.

FFAM1-If you don't already own them, you might want to invest in A) Cole's US Military Knives & Bayonets BK 3 or 4. Also Silvey's Book US Knives of WW2. Cole has 11 pages on MK1's & 9 pages dedicated to MK2's. Silvey is all color photos you really get to see what they actually look like. Both books well worth the money. There are quite a few books and knives on ebay. Good luck! SKIP

Well right now I have the Best of US Military Knives, Bayonets and Machetes by Cole..... I know it has the info on the Mk I's and II's. Is the silvey's book a better guide?

FFAM1-Silvey's book is not as in depth as Cole's but the photographs are great. You get to see all the different colors and details not seen in line drawings.The books compliment each other. Also go to my favorite knife site, "WorldWar2Weapons.net" the edged weapons section. They generally have 20-28 pages of knives and books consolidated. Gives you a real good grasp of prices to help at shows. Hope this helps. SKIP

I have one that is very similar to the one posted above. The guy selling it at a local antique show wanted $55, but I got it for $35.

Two questions. For now, at least, I can't afford a Cole's, but it's on my list. :

1) Is this WWII? That's my particular area of interest - WWII.

2) Is the sheath consistent with the age of the knife? It's a seven rivet.
