Feed problem

I have an Enfield No. 4 ( not sure Mk1 or Mk2) Manufactured in England 1943.
I have yet to fire this rifle. I have used A-Zoom snap caps in the rifle to check cycling of bolt, the extractor etc.
Every time the last round comes up in the magazine it won't chamber. Either the bolt doesn't pick up the round or the nose of the bullet seems to pop up too high and the round hits the side of the chamber and can't enter the chamber.
I'm pretty sure its the magazine but I can't see anything obvious.
Any suggestions?

I'm no gunsmith, but I'm not sure those light A-Zoom snap caps will give you an accurate simulation of loading and feeding, as you'd get with fully weighted ammunition.

When will you have the opportunity to fire live ammo and see if the same problem exists with it?

Not necessarily the magazine. I've found that unless you work the bolt with authority the rounds will often misfeed, especially on the last round.

Try working the bolt faster, don't ease it closed.

Thanks Badger, I never considered the weight of the snap caps. I think I'll wait til I'm at the range before I cycle live ammo though. LOL

The rifles want long bullets, and often misfeed 150gr loads, and even FEDERAL 180gr. If you still have problems, try WINCHESTER 180gr POWERPOINT. The bullet is longer. If you still have trouble, bend the front lip down SLIGHTLY to correct the problem. You really have to set them up to work with the ammo you plan to use, then DON't remove the mag unless absolutely necessary. The front lips are quite delicate, and more than one mag has been damaged by being dropped.
