Seller's Description:
This is a WWII era Springfield 1903-A4 " sniper " rifle. It is from the US Army by way of Civilian Marksmanship Program. CMP. It Was sold in early 1999 in Grade A condition. It still has its shipping manifest and Original CMP shipping box. Weapon seems to be Unfired and is still partially in military cosmoline. Fully in the barrel channel and buttstock area. Serial number is 3409664 and has a Remington Arms 4-groove barrel. Which is correct for the early 1903-A4's. From checking the barrel date information on the net it has the Original barrel according to the date information. It has the More Rare 4 groove Barrel that was only placed on the first couple thousand, before they got Order changes to put 2 groove barrels on the rifles. Serial number places it in the first 2600 of the first original order of 20,000 1903-A4's This rifle is next to flawless. It has a crisp and correct military stock that was manufactured by Military contractor Keystone. It is the favored "C" design with a pistol grip. It is stamped in the Cut off switch valley with a "K" Also on the stock is a Cartouch of a Circle "P" on the face of the pistol grip. As well as a 7 or L on the tip of the rifle stock. There is another cartouche on the left Buttstock of BA 11 for Benicia Arsenal. One of the oldest and most respected Arsonals still around. Read the history on it on the Net. All Cartouches are very nice and crisp. Stock does "not" appear to have been sanded. It has 3 areas that seem to be rack marks. They can easily be sanded smooth but I am leaving those as original as well. The parkerizing on this weapon is 100% coverage and perfect. Bolt does not even have a mark on the face from a single bullet. Barrel shows no rust or pitting. Weapon has the correct military scope base and is stamp with Redfield name. It is mounted with a Military M-84 scope. Scope has post style recticle. Scope itself is correctly blued and shows signs of a few minor scratches on outer metal surfaces. Lenses are perfect with a faint touch of dust particles which is common. What is Rare about the scope set-up is the scope rings. They are 7/8 inch and are a rare top load type. The bases even have the rare case hardend screws. Scope has the original M65 scope case. This is a green canvas material pouch for the scope when it was detatched from the rifle. Case has, what appears to be, some type of military stamp on it for identification. GS1. All hardware on rifle is stamped "R" for Remington and is in perfect condition. Even the buttplate is unsctratched. I have chosen to not clean this rifle and leave it in it's semi-military storage state. This truely has to be one of the best 1903-a4 I have ever seen being in this state and with the original shipping box and paperwork from CMP. I have not seen a condition "A" 1903-A4 in years from CMP if ever. Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance. Email me with any questions, I am entertaining offers. Same rifle you linked to On July 21 Goo. Only then the price was $2000. lower. Did the value go up or is the seller getting stupider? He has now priced it about $10K over its worth.
