1917 noob here, did i do ok?

Hi.

While checking out a very nice condition 1903a3 I ended up buying a winchester 1917 that was in a similarly nice condition. The serial number is in the 191,XXX range. I know nothing about 1917s, so would appreciate any info you might have on my new toy.

The barrel is marked with a "W", a flaming bomb, and 3-18

The model stamp on the receiver is extremely crisp and overall the bluing looks to be in great condition.

I'll probably put it away as a safe queen. I'd appreciate any info you could tell me about this gun. Be happy to take more detailed pictures if it would help.

That looks very nice compared to the "barn find" Remington I have.

Maybe its me, but is the receiver blued or parkerized? It looks parked in the pic with the sight ears and stock, but in another it looks shiny.

If that stock is original, the rifle has really been "round the block"! Two different San Antonio Arsenal markings and an Augusta Arsenal rework stamp. Hard to tell for sure, but looks Parked to me.

sorry for the mixup, the receiver is parkerized not blued. thanks for the nice comments, it is a indeed a nice looking gun.

Parkerized indicates a WWII rebuild, which would also explain the stock.

My barn find was al all-original Remington M1917 that someone sporterized by cutting down the front stock (fortunately they kept the front band and just moved it back). Replaced a few of the badly-pitted parts and it looks fairly respectable now

I agree - in excellent shape for a rebuild.

What does a blued one look like? The reason I ask is because mine looks like it has a baked on painted finish.
