Hammer Spring and Plunger Question

Hi guys new to the forum and a big "hi" from the UK colonies.......just asking the board if there is any tips and tricks to refitting the hammer spring and plunger on my 43 Rock-Ola......it seems really hard to depress the spring and refit the hammer.....

Do you remove the hammer to fit or leave the hammer in place and fit the spring......it seems that i just dont have enough hands.....:rofl:

I use a punch that will just fit in the plunger end and with my thumb on the rear of the housing I compress the spring until it fits into the hammer notch. Come in from the right side of the housing. The left looks as if it is the most logical but it isn't. I hope this helps

Hey Bill thats superb thanks.....so the hammer is left in situ and the spring is just depressed and the plunger guided into the hole in the trigger housing yes ?

The mistake i made was trying to refit it with the hammer removed......thus not having enough hands to depress spring.....guide plunger and refit hammer pin.....:-(

Good morning Loyd and welcome. I do the same as Bill. Make sure you point the plunger at something that will stop it and the spring incase it slips off the the punch and becomes a projectile. You should also were safty glasses. hth.....Frank

Thankyou guys is said the advice is very much appreciated.......one last question before fitting...does the sear and hammer have to be in a certain posistion before refitting the hamer pin to make it "fire" .....or do you just push the hammer down and depress the sear then fit the hamer pin.

Then you can do the plunger and hammer spring operation to refit as the posting asks.

PS Yes Bill i do know Marc..were you at Beltring this year on the G503 camp ?

Hammer in the fallen postion and straight down to fit the pin.

"Fallen" being..fired ...not cocked.......correct Bill ?

Some folks also use the op rod. In the field that would be all you had.

I have stuck one or two in the sheet rock. I found a tool some years back that keeps me from making holes in the wall. After market, but works.

Hey Jim, looks like industial tongs that are notch. I don't know why someone couldn't fabricate one. Think I might give it a try. Thanks.....Frank
