Bolt Question
I have an import 98 style Mauser with an American Eagle w/ stars on the crest, labeled "Model 98/85" on the receiver, imported in the 80's I think, chambered for .308. It has a straight bolt and it makes for a pretty tight chambering of many types of .308 ammo. Any chance of getting a bent bolt to fit and headspace? (The straight bolt is in the white, and protrudes awkwardly in my rather cramped gun safe.)

Yeah. Its easy to bend. Take it to any smith or I can explain the procedure to you if you want to try it yourself.
Send me a PM for instructions.

These are Fed Ord jobs? Chinese receivers, FN barrels, built in Los Angeles. Sold with a huge non-sense story. If you shoot this thing, do check your headspace on regular basis.

Fed Ordinance, thats the one. Didnt know about the Chinese receivers part. Dont intend to shoot high powered loads. But do have some milsurp ammo which could be hotter. Maybe I better save the milsurp ammo for other rifles. What is it about this thing that could allow headspace to vary? Thanks for responding.

Chinese receivers can be very good or very bad. No way to tell. Made for 8mm Chinese Army use and the 7.62mm is a little hot. May or may not stretch the receiver. Just check the receiver for safety sake.
