The launcher was adopted March 4 1943, 10 pieces tested (I think at Aberdeen) in July 1943.
That Stars & Stripes is dated 2-1944. Six months later it makes the new. That is kind of cool.
I have a Ordanance Supply Catalog dated 17 August 1944 showing the M1, M2, M7 and M8 launchers. It's 8 1/2" by 5 1/2" 28 pages.
I made about 25 copies years ago for $2.50 each. Sold one with each of the 5 launchers I had to sell when Calif went goofy. I still have about 15 of them left. I should have kept the launchers and just hid them away. :banghead:

Launching grenades with the powerful grenade launching round is exactly what has chipped and cracked so many carbine stocks at the tang of the recoil plate.
Inland44,
I'm sure your right.......
But i could live with that chipped stock (back then) if I was able to knock out a tank or half track.
Today...while in search of choice stocks....you just have to curse that dang launcher.

They can be incredibly accurate too! I have fired many practice grenades from my carbines, but all from the shoulder. Recoil is surprisingly mild. You could easily put a round through a window at 100 yards with a little practice. Yes, I know how expensive those cartridges are, but I have well over 100 in several types of packages as well as some individual loose rounds.
I have fired some parachute flares into the fog from the beach. Seeing the sky light up green and red. Kind of reminded me of Viet Nam, but with less noise.
The cartridges used to be fairly reasonable. I see them now for $25 in a sealed pack of six. Less if they are loose. But that is not the cost. The cost is the flare you are shooting off at about $75.
But it is a lot of fun. :D
