I guess I have to stop lurking here as I'm about to get my first Mosin, an Ish' 1944r. :super:
I have tried the search function here and visited most of the Mosin on websites, But does anyone have any advice for a Mosin newbie like myself? :D
Also...
Do they really kick like mules?
Any types of ammo to avoid?
Name of a good chiropractor? :D

There are several "Izhevsk" manufactured Mosins in display with detailed photo pictorials in the Finnish (click here) and Russian (click here) MKL (Milsurp Knowledge Library) sections.
I ran a quick Search (click here) on the keyword "Izhevsk" and turned up 21 threads, so there may be some interesting discussion about your new acquisition in there.
There are a lot of knowledgeable Mosin collectors on here, so I'm sure you'll find what you need. They're not my specialty to collect, but Claven2 really knows these things. Unfortunately he's away for a week on vacation, but I'm sure he'll contribute to your answers here when he gets back.

If you're looking for a shooter, worry about bore condition more than matching, stock, etc. I've shot every kind of 7.62x54R out of my Mosin's over the years, including the Red/Black banded stuff waaaay back. I do miss those days.:crying: The only kind of ammo I avoid is the expensive stuff.Quote:

I purchased an M38 and M44 from TradeEx and an M44 from P&S last winter. Both were excellent to deal with and the rifles were every bit as good as, or better than, advertised.
I've come to prefer the M38 to the M44, but you can't go wrong with either one, IMO.

You will hardly notice the kick when you start having fun shooting it. Hold it tight and proper and you'll have minimum problem. My 91/30's, 38's and 44's and PU seem to like the light ball a wee bit better than the heavy ball, The Dragunov and the Finnish guns like the heavy stuff much better. A web sight called 7.62X54r will give you a great deal of information on M.N's, almost too much, but, it will give you any specific information you'd be looking for about now, HTH-SDH
for shooting in my mosin nagants i prefer to shoot whichever ammo i can get for the cheapest, practical accuracy seems to be about the same. the czech stuff does like to stick in some rifles (by no means all) but the cure is supposed to be quite easy.
i have never found the recoil of a MN to be much of a problem.
I just got my Mosin Nagant 1891/30 a few months ago and I find the bolt can be a bit of a pain sometimes when you are closing it and it will be really stiff. Anybody ever experience that on theirs?
I've found bolt stiffness or stickiness to usually be more associated with extraction but have had it occur like you describe also.Quote:
