Sporterized but not cut up. All matching upper bottom metal does not match. Too far gone to save? Just a parts gun when your done? What's it worth? Is it real? The questions keep coming... First and foremost, Is it real? Best way to tell?

I doubt this will answer your questions, but the link will take you to a post of mine on another forum. J P Sauer & Sohn did some development and production on a LSR sniper model and made receivers with a flat side to facilitate manufacture. (Another maker other than JPS&S made most of the snipers using the LSR mount). Your receiver received the normal machining for contouring the receiver, but does have what looks like the holes for the pins and screws to mount some type of side rail mount.
Most of my linked post won't help you much because my receiver was not assembled into a sniper (no holes for pins and screws; was probably set aside and later assembled into a standard 98k). The pix of the receiver will show you what the flat side looks like.
Give some thought to what you'll eventually do with it. Inquiring minds and all that.

Thanks for the post and links. Must say I have rifle envy. That must surely be one of the early CE experimentals for the LSR sniper that didnt make the grade or got held back and made into a rifle later. May explain the difference in number fonts if one needs to be explained. The rifle I pictured has not been modded for the LSR base but is rather just set up for the SSR. The goal is to return it to its former glory if ever possible. The investment I know will be great but at least I will know how it began life, that I put it back and not someone else just farbing something up. All this being predicated on it being a real, all be it rather unfortunate former sniper. I will try to get a few more pics posted of other markings.
Looking forward to seeing a few more photos of your action. I have some photos on file of another JP S&S CE 44 rifle that I previously owned. It was almost a textbook example of normal production, quite different in many details from my "flatside". I have a spare stock, mostly likely Sauer, that may be useful to you in the event you build yours back up. Regards.
What I can see looks real good, especially that Sauer barrel. I'm assuming that the bolt #'s match the receiver and the bore is as clean as the outside. At the very least, you have an excellent shooter. Everyone seems to be looking for better or correct parts to upgrade their rifle and consequently WWII parts are getting scarce. Any parts that you find would add at least as much as they cost you in value.
Configuring this action to SSR is doable but likely to be very pricey. There are some replica bases and mounts out there, but since I haven't built one I can't offer much in the way of recommendations. A proper looking, even postwar European scope, would escalate your investment rapidly.
I do have a '42 dated Sauer stock if you decide to proceed with at least putting it in 98k trim. If interested, advise, and I'll send you a PM or separate email with photos and price for further consideration.
