No 4 Mk 1 1943 Maltby with Mag Cutoff Stock

I picked up 2 No 4 1943 Maltbys today. One has been upgraded to Mk 2 Status and the other is still a Mk1.

Anyway the Mk1 has an interested feature as it has a stock that is the cut for the magazine cut off like on the Trials Rifles. The Mk 1 also has a two groove barrel.

Are these cut off stocks common? It is the first I have seen, or maybe the first that I noticed.

Hi Brian, Yes they're fairly common on early rifles. The forends were machined to the Trials pattern. In later patterns they eliminated the extra cuts for production expediency in both British and North American production. ATB. Brian

Nice condition, unaltered, wartime dated British rifles are pretty hard to find. It's much like trying to find a U.S. M1 Rifle that hasn't been rebuilt at least once. Sounds like you did good.

Thanks for the additional information. The rifle that appears to still be in original condition has the serial of the rifle stamped on the buttstock in same location as the scope # on a "T". Also, the serial is stamped on the forearm near the front sight. Stock appears to be lightly sanded.
