58 POF No4 MKII for bradtx

Nice rifle, and nice find! These POF's grow on you, I think faster than the
UF55's. (seems to be fewer of them, now anyway!).
I feel lucky to have the Mk I and Mk II that I've got.

Enfield trader, That was a treat, thanks! Any idea why the fore end is relieved under the lower barrel band? Common for POFs?

Does anyone know what the "MPD with arrow" stamp in the wood denotes or stands for?.

I've read speculation that it means Pakistani Military Defense, but don't know for sure. :confused:

M^D with the "P" below would logically be read as Ministry of Defence - Pakistan. The ordnance factory (Wah) where these rifles were made falls under the Ministry of Defence.
The use of the braod arrow is a carry over from British rule as would be the use of english for the markings.

The Indian Army Liaison Officer here says that thePMD initials indicate the P-whatever it is Military District. Or at least that's what the Indian markings would indicate. The Military districts don't necessarily equate to the Police districts or the State districts.as in State Forces and Para military Police.
I should imagine that it gets quite complicated being a Technical Quartermaster in India or Pakistan
