My new 1918 Enfield No1 Mk3*. I've had a 1915 BSA No1 Mk3* but the Enfield has a lot more markings than the BSA.

Picture 8 - is it a 'star' marking ?
A star normally means rusty / corroded bore

Has a US Import Mark = England.

Has been sold Commercially in the UK - London Proof marks.

The HV means that it is sighted for Mark VII ammunition.

A bit of a bargain I reckon.

Can we see a close up of the butt marking discs?

The marker disk on the BSA is a repro from IMA-US. The one on the Enfield is blank. What's the 273 for?

It is a star... It's like the star on the back of the magazine. The bore looks great... shiny with good lands and grooves.

Picture Five - the markings on the knox form. An Armed (armoured) Arm holding a Seax or a Scimitar (I don't know which it is) - it should have the letters NP just under it but I can't see from the photo, the 18.5 tons , the calbre markings. They are London Nitro Proof Marks.

It is an offence to sell a firearm in the UK that does not bear the proof mark of one of the Proof Houses - London or Birmingham.

Thank you for the info.... I have a No5 that has similar proofs (BNP). I didn't know it meant it was sold commercially in the UK. I thought it was part of the pre-68 import marks. :thup:

My wife collects Enfields and she has a beautiful 1917 No.1 MkIII* Rifle (137 picture virtual tour ... click here)

The rifle shown in the virtual tour is correctly serial number matched and in addition, is equipped with a very rare Flanders Flap. This flap was designed to keep the mud out of the barrel, but was spring mounted so it could easily be opened, or flip out of the way if the soldier accidentally discharged his rifle without opening it.

Badger, that's a really nice BSA the Mrs. has... In picture 24, why does it look like the "blow hole" is elongated?

Here's pics below of the same area from her 1916 ShtLE (Short Lee-Enfield) No.1 MkIII* Sniper Rifle (click here) which although manufactured by Enfield and not BSA, looks oblong shape to me too, so maybe they're supposed to be that way?
