Questions on a 1941 Garand

A local pawn shop just acquired M1 and I can't find my Scott Duff book with data sheet and am hoping someone can help me. The serial number is 349416 and the barrel is dated 9-41. The stock is marked SA/GHS. The gas cylinder has the narrow sight base. All the parts are SA marked. The following are the dash numbers. The bolt is a -2, the trigger unit -6, the hammer -2, the safety -9, op rod -3. Overall condition is to be excellent with some wear. The rear sight does not have the locking bar. They are asking $1500. Is this reasonable for rifle of this vintage, and dash numbers?

Does the rear sight have a flush nut? Is the stock real? If the sttock is right than $1500 is not bad.

Not bad? I'd say it is a great deal if all is correct.

If there is a whole bunch of gobblygook stamped under there like "tons" and stuff, then it is a Brit LL return. It might be up by the gas cylinder also.

Long story but it could be a substantially correct rifle. It is too early for a lockbar rear sight, even a short pinion type 1, but go back on Scott Duff's site and look at the Garands for sale to see one of these.

There are some pretty good pictures there of one, especially the front gas cylinder with a sight seal still intact (and yes the finish on the gas cylinders will look like that - there are several possible but that is one of the original looks that we look for). You can also see what one might sell for, though this one sold recently and was a SMOKIN deal IMHO;

I know the guy personally and there is no one who will put more pics of an item up. On this one to his detriment - that was a fine rifle that he accetuated the flaws on. I think it should have sold up where the one on Scott's site sold ...

PS; if it is NOT a LL and is substantially original and in good condition, well, that is quite a find - there aren't all that many that made it thru to today.

Good lord that is one of the best photo documented GB sales I have ever seen! And it was a great price for the rifle, damn I hate being broke!
