Irish SMLE Question
Hey Guys,
Picked up a 1918 Enfield No 1 MkIII* barrelled receiver today. Beautiful shape and perfect bore. Got a bitser project here. FF on barrel knox form and receiver.
Quick question...
It has FB 36 stamped twice on the knox form. What does this mean?
Also...interesting thing... it has a Fed Ord Import stamp at 6 o'clock on the barrel half way between the rear sight and muzzle. I assume it came in as a barreled receiver as the rifle would have to have been disassembled to be stamped in this location?
Thanks...Todd:thup:

FB-36 is the steel batch number indicating FIRTH BROWN, the steel makers and 36, the steel mix. That mix is quite common together with FB-42 and a few more.
