Do you mean a mark exactly like this and in this location?
These pics are from the 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) displayed in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library .

If so, I believe it's an inspector's mark and I remember reading in Peter's book the actual name of the man, but it escape's me at the moment.
Perhaps Peter can chime in and confirm this. :thup:

Good afternoon from bright and sunny Warminster. And just to make it better, we're out on the ranges with a couple of No4T's this very afternoon. One being a Canadian with a Mk4/No67 telescope too!

Too late for today but will do it next week! I have to say, but I do like the little Lyman scope on the TP type rifle. I recognise that it failed on all counts but it's quite comfortable, good optically but difficult to zero in. Maybe I'm just not used to them
The stamp/mark is on the right side. I would love to get your book, but things being the way they are in this economy I can only ask questions and window shop. Thanks to all for their knowledge and sharing of information. ThomasR
