My Civil War Colt
I picked up a Civil War area 1849 Pocket with holster. Serial number dates it to 1863. Came with an original holster. Only Civvil War era Colt I could afford. Markings are great as well as the cylinder scene. No finnish but matching numbers. Heres a pic:

That is a very fine revolver and you were exceptionally lucky to get the holster. As I am sure you are aware, take very good care of the holster, store the gun outside of it and put preservatives on it only if absolutely necessary. Almost all modern goops have petroleum products as part of their make-up and will damage leather in the long run. You have a nice set there.

Great piece of history there!
Any chance of finding out who used it in the civil war?

I called Colt for a letter. They have some records for the Pockets but sadly not mine. I like it and the first Colt I owned. Maybe someday an Army are Navy will turn up I can afford.

Oh yea great advice on the holster. I dont store it in the holster and thankfully the holsters leather is still supple. Neet holster. Wonder who made it?

Make sure that you don't use Lexol on that holster. Lexol is about 90% water, and will ruin a nice old piece of leather like that. If you have to use anything at all, use pure lanolin. You can get it at your local pharmacy.
