I'll be watching with my guns!
I spent from 5:30 am til near 6 pm in my deer blind.
The wife is recording the whole series for me.
I'll try to stay awake long enough to watch it tonight.......but doubt I'll make it.
This will be great to have for a cold snowy night.
Like Xmas eve !!
Can't wait to see that folder you have coming Curt. I can barely wait......You must be going crazy !!
Cheers,
Charlie
I missed the first night, but caught it last night.
Three hours, and MANY carbine photos. Especially in the Pacific theater. Many film clips that I have never seen before. Some, particularly the Pacific ones were VERY graphic. Much blood and guts.... Literally!!
But well worth the watch. In fact, fascinating. Told from the standpoint of men and women who had participated in the actual battles. I plan to get the DVD's when they come out. Recommended watching for us all.

HBO will be releasing another WW2 movie , Pacific -- a follow-on to "Band of Brothers".
At least three of the characters will be based on real Marines who are quite well known in some circles:
GSgt. "Manilla John" Baselone. The only USMC NCO to earn both the MOH & the NC in WW2.
Eugene B. (Sledgehammer) Sledge. Author of at least 2 very good books.
Robert ( Brig Rat ) Leaky , Author of a long list of history books.
Based on reading one of Sledge's books , With the Old Breed (not China Marine , yet ) --- the latest HBO movie will be grim. A lot uglier than 'Band of Brothers or Saving Pvt Ryan. Sledge tells it like he saw it. Different war , different enemy , different response by US troops...
Mouse Click on the film strip thumbnail and video starts playing immediately.

The footage is great and is well-restored.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news: There is a deliberate and persistent feeling of despair, hopelessness, horror, and meaninglessness overshadowing the entire narrative. It appears that they've chosen their subjects so that most of them illustrate the extremes of misery and despair. The music is something from a horror film.
What was it Lt. Gen. Harold Moore said? Something like, 'Modern filmmakers never get it right.'
Bob
Uh, wasn't it Gen. Sherman who said "War is hell"?
It is a little hard to be upbeat about a war that killed between 48-61 million people. http://warchronicle.com/numbers/WWII/deaths.htm

Also did Lt. Gen Moore really think that the filmmakers of yore did get it right?
