Buggered screw on my Martini Enfield

Hi Fellas
Just today picked up my Martini Enfield from the gun dealer,it is a MKII,it has no cleaning rod(I'll have to get one,if I can find one)it has the provision or hole for the cleaning rod.
It has Victorian Gov marking all over it(Australian)
But what concerns me is the rear barrel band screw is butchered:( and I was going to pull it apart to clean it and inspect all the markings,for the barrel has a bit of rust showing where the wood meets,but now with the screw butchered..........,what should I do?:dunno:

Can I get another screw from somewhere?
Also on the trigger guard is there supposed to be a swivel ?

I thought the rifling would be not much,but there is plenty there,alot more than I thought,just a bit dark.

Help please?.

If I had this problem, I woud remove the wreckage and use a home-made 3/16"x26tpi screw. This (0.1875") is near enough to the Enfield 0.181"x26.33tpi that the 3/16x26 can probably be eased through the existing thread, which will a) be worn and also a bit FUBAR and b) has a short threaded length. If necessary, clean it out with the 26tpi tap. Worth a couple of beers if someone can do that for you.

The next question, at least from the average consumer, is: who the hell has a 3/16x26tpi tap and die? The answer is: many model engineers of the "live steam" variety, as the 26 tpi series is commonly used for boiler fittings etc.
So broaden your horizons and get in tough with a model engineering club. Someone there will be able to fix it for you.

If you have a ME MKII .303 then your rifle should not have a clearing rod. They were with drawn from service early in the issue.

That barrel band screw is not an ordinary screw but a tapered head,

The barrel band screw is buggered,but I have contacted Scott Stonehill fron Evans obsolete Screws and he said he can make one for me,but I'll have to find out if they are tapered.

Do you know where I could get a ME butt swivel,for mine is missing,just a hole in the butt.:D
