1941 No.4 Mk1(T) Maltby (M) production part 2/3
Continuing on from part 1 and to keep things separate.
Shown is a Maltby rifle produced 1941 and receiver marked, "R.O.F.M. No.4 Mk1 1941." There is no "T" present on the receiver flat. The socket is marked serial number, F.T.R. and TR. Again the ftr appears is an odd location.
With the rear handguard removed, the barrel appears to be a replacement made at Enfield and dated 1946. There are no markings to indicate use by another country.
While the telescopic sight and mount are not original to the rifle, they are interesting in their own right as they are of post war Israeli production. Note the thin height of the mount web located between the two attaching screws. The sight body has Hebrew markings and the turret adjustrment knob profile is uniqe to this model. Also note the raised shoulder at the end of the objective lens bell. I bougth three or four of these scopes in their cans from Paragon in the late 70's. Dummy should have bought them all.
