BTW Home & Bldg Mat'ls Co. was a legit WWII sling provider.

I don't know that I would be so quick to judge. Like Brian, I have seen these before. Had one but the paper was darker. Also Mags had one out of the box of 100 with a label. Maybe Bill has some contract info?

My initial post was not meant to comment on what may be a repro sling and tag. Only to point out that not every sling or magazine for that matter had a label. The sling in question may be real and it may be a fake. I won’t post a comment either way. I will say that in the mid 1990’s a dealer had copies made of a real HOME & BLDG MAT’LS CO tag and sold repro slings as real complete with the tags he had made. When questioned on the authenticity the dealer admitted he had the tags made up. There is a difference in the material the real tags and the fake ones are made out of.

The web material on that sling seems awful flimsy compared to my post war GI slings. If it was real, and he does have other stuff that is real, he should know the value: $100 to 120+ for mint unissued.

I wrote an article years ago about this manufacturer being legit. I was suckered back in the mid-late 1980's. The article was in the Carbine Club newsletter. I suspected the sling was a "nomenclature item", which means it was packed with a large quantity and one would have the designation, in case the outside pack got damage and was hard to read.

Since that time I have not found any contracts for Home Products (abbreviated). I have, I think, all Government Carbine Sling Contracts and this one is missing. The reason I say I was suckered because I now know the originality of this item. All contracts consisted of 10 packs and one was a 25 pack, with no nomenclature piece inside.

The sling was legit. The maker was fake. The tag was fake. The tag exists in a high quality treated fabric and cheap heavy paper. The fabric tag is earlier.The sling tag originated from a dealer in Michigan.

This goes back to the days when a standard legit sling in new condition was circa $12.00-15.00. But add a marking or a tag like this one, and you could get an additional $10.00.

I cannot tell about the ones I have seen the last few years because now some are copying fake items, assuming they are legit.

If anybody has a document showing this as a legit contract, it will appreciate seeing it.

Actually it is not an M8. Because it has the M1910 hook, it is an M8A1.

My goodness, $109 for just an M8A1! I have an actual M8 on my old Utica M4, and gave less than half that for the bayonet and M8!
