Does the 44 stamped next to the circle P on the wrist of a 1903A3 stock indicate 1944? --TIA
no,
its likely a location or rack number..most done on Greek return rifles.
some M1903A4's (and posssibly A3's) have a small (1/8"~) alpha character stamped next to the "P". I presume its another subinspector mark.
Never seen numbers though. i think chuck is right about the rack number. Is the number easily readable if the rifle is held butt down as if it were in a rack?
Regards.
Jim
I don't think it is a rack mark. It looks like an inspection mark. Here's a photo.
sup inspectors mark..
Chuck, Is there any way to determine what year the stock was manufactured?
Two more photos. Looks like a SG in the cutoff relief and numerous inspection marks forward of the trigger guard.
Any other ideas about the 44? year made? What about the SG in the cutoff slot?
