Generally, the Army seemed to notice little, if any, difference. Most shooters who report range performance, seem to back this up.

2 groove performance
About 20 yrs ago I rebarreled 3 rifles with surplus, new 2 groove barrels. A M1917, a Remington M1903, and a Smith Corona M1903A3. All 3 are fine shooters. The Remington is now my Elk rifle.

The 2 groove handles cast bullets very well. 600 plus yards and the 4 groove is best. Otherwise they are nearly equal.

If you decide to go with 4 groove, make sure you ask the proper questions before buying. One dealer is commercially cutting two extra grooves in a two groove barrel; the added grooves are the wrong size.

iv heard a lot of great things about 2 groove and the cast bullets.

I've heard that 2 groove barrels heat up quicker, especially during competition. Anyone experience this?
