This Navy Colt is one of the 100 ( 43901-44000) shipped to the Norfolk Navy Yard to equip the new USS TEXAS BB 35. I have in the past also owned 43909....

A technical query: How does it come about that the Colt marking is doubled-stamped? I have an Alfred Parker front sight for an Enfield that is also double-stamped. Does the die sometimes rebound in the stamping jig?

More like double rolled, as I believe Colt was roll marking slide markings in 1913.Quote:

In my opinion.... nope. I think is a nice example! I looks like it was simply sent through the dies twice. The first (lighter) markings almost appear to fade out. The second marking is much deeper.Quote:
