M1917 mods

I Hope this is the right place to put this?:dunno:

I have just bought a Eddystone M1917 in 303/25(have not got it yet,waiting for the dealer to get back from holidays)and it has the fat belly in the stock and was wondering would that be the 6 shot or the 5 shot?

How do you get it so you don't have to get a "Fat belly"stock when you put a new stock on it?
Do you alter the magazine or is it the floorplate,action?

I intend to get it re-barreled to the .303Epps (by an Aussie barrel maker) and get a laminated stock,trigger,bedded and free floated and a real good scope,Leupold maybe?
This is going to be my project gun

To get a 'straight' bottom stock, you would need to cut and straighten the triggerguard metal, and shorten the mag box. Another option is to use a 1903 Springfield triggerguard, modified. I am not sure how that would work with the rimmed .303 cartridge. Are you sure that you have a 1917 Enfield, and not a P14? Most unusual to have a rimless action fitted up w/rimmed cartridge. BTW, the 25/303 is a really nice cartridge. If the bbl is good, try shooting it first before rebarrelling.

The dealer said it was a Eddystone M1917,but it could be a P-14 in disguise:dunno:

Fat Boy stocks were P14's. How is the receiver marked? Does it say Model of 1917? If it just has a serial number it's a P14.

I never looked at that and that is in New South Wales(the gun)I'm in Victoria,I was passing through,had a quick look then went on the website when I got home and bought it that way.
If it was a M1917,then it would be right to say it WAS 30/06,right?
Why would they change it to a rimmed cartridge?,so maybe it is a P-14:dunno:

I wish now I took the time to check it right out(but was with a mate and he was wanting to get back to his girlfriends place):D:D:D

I am not familiar with the 303/25 round, but if its based on the .303 British round, then you will only have a five round magazine capacity.
The only reason the M1917 had a six round capacity was change to the rimless 30-06 cartridge since they didn't redesign the mag box when they redesigned the rifle and the unplanned result was enough room for another round in the magazine.

I am willing to bet its a P14, if it is, you will see the makers mark and the serial number on the receiver ring with no other writing. The P14 makers mark was W for Winchester (stamped as the first character of the serial number), ERA for Eddystone and RE for Remington whereas the M1917 had the makers name spelled out. (except very early Winchester were still marked W.)

I will look when I get the gun in my hot little grubby hands(Can't wait).
I reckon it probably would be a P-14 but that is ok.
Why would they change it from 30/06 to .303-25 if it was a 30/06 already,they could have gone for any cailber based on Rimless or belted for that matter.
