Enfield Sporter

I have a No.4 Mk1 Enfield that has been "sporterized". It now wears a synthetic stock, and has a scope mounted. The scope has the base which doesn't require any drilling, so the hardware has not been damaged. Anyway, my question is about the rather unsightly "ears" left after the front sight was removed. Is there an aftermarket item that would cover this area, and perhaps look like a flash supressor? Maybe just a nice cone shaped piece that would slide over the sight ears? I wouldn't want to cut the barrel to get that "clean" look, so I was hoping something is already out there.

Well you *could* get rid of the synthetic stock, source a set of wood, and try and return it to the original glory! There'd be no shortage of help and advice here - and you might enjoy it. Just a thought.

Eventually, I will "restore" it. That's why I was looking for a temporary fix to the "ear" problem. I don't want to cut it, since I will someday do as you suggest. Any suggestions on how to "pretty up" the front end in the meantime?

Ears? Do you mean the bayonet and foresight lugs? Perhaps you could disguise the area with a muzzle brake if you could find one that would fit. I want 1 anyway (so I can take my wife shooting, but the recoil on a Lee Enfield might be too much for her shoulder injury), so if anyone knows of a source, I would like to know. Could also slap on a grenade launcher - they look sufficiently evil in my opinion, and they would definitely disguise the end of the muzzle.

Just get a piece of water pipe insulating foam and put that from end of fore-end to muzzle. That should hide just about everything. That's what snipers used to do on their L42's. Just don't let the water get in and stay there!
