Savage no. 4 Mk 1 questions.

Hi,
I just recently found myself a "US PROPERTY" marked Savage no 4 (72C68XX) and its in rather good condition. All of the Funiture is Savage, how ever the level of wear differs, I am wondering, would it be worth more if i resotred the original finish where it is warn and if so, is Suncorite correct? This is a 1943, it sits in original Maple if that makes a difference, some of the markings appear to have been removed which seems accurate with this time frame in the history of these rifles. I do not see any FTR makings, I assume if there were this would indicate the Metal was refinished in Suncorite, I may have a 1/3 on my hands, I admit I am new to Serious collecting but any help will be greatly appreciated. Also on the subject of Savages, with thanks to Advisory Panel member Lance, there's also a rare "all correct" 1942 No.4 Mk1*(T) Savage Sniper Rifle (less scope) (click here) .....

Lance's article, accompanied by a detailed 165 pic photo montage, speaks to this example as being one of approximately 3,400 Savage rifles converted by Holland and Holland and re-barreled with an Enfield 5 groove barrel, however, it was never fitted with a matching No.32 scope.

Correction, according to further research the wood is birch, I will be posting pictures shortly of the Rifle.

Thanks for the info, its nice to see I have all but 1 or 2 markings, i have a bolt also from a Lee I purchased which has the Savage front components, stamped 3L69XX with out the whole cut out of the end of the ball but has a round rear part to the bolt where as all of the savages i see excluding the sniper T savage model have the flat rectangle end. This i guess is my main point of confusion. Im thinking it is a mismatched Savage bolt that found its way on a Lee?

You have a Long Branch bolt.

thanks for the insight, thats interesting because i found a Long Branch Sporterized with a Lee Bolt at a local store, if i get that one i can swap out the respective parts, have a Lee, LB and a Savage (addictive). Thanks
