I scored a set of 303 bore gauges today, .300,.301,.302,.303, also supplied were some.297-.300 in half thou steps, are these bore gauges for 7.62 nato?
The are supposedly australian army armourers gauges. I don't have them in my hand now but they are clearly marked and were coded.
If you give me or Son the part number that will be marked on them, we'll tell you what they relate to. But the .301! gauge is the 'must run freely under its own weight' for all .303" and the .297 is the same for the L1A1 and some early Brens. The later Brens were .299.
But PLEASE do not let gauges cloud your judgement. Let your eyes and the accuracy test (not its zeroing ability....) of the rifle be your judge.
Could you post a photo with the sizes please. Is it a single stepped gauge or separate gauges?
As Mr. Laidler said above "PLEASE do not let gauges cloud your judgement." the proof is in the shooting.
And here is a Canadian "odd man out", the Canadian bore gauge below is .303 and runs the entire length of my 1950 Long Branch, BUT this same gauge will not fit any of my British 2 and 5 groove barrels. This Enfield came from Brian Dick and is in excellent condition and apears to be unissued BUT it has a 5 groove barrel also.

The Long Branch you sold me shoots great, but I must be truthful, your Enfield is in such good shape I don't like to shoot it much and just keep it as a role model for the rest of my Enfields.
To be truthful I only shoot two of my Enfields a 1943 Maltby my first Enfield and a 1950 FAZ Mk.2 that was center bedded by the South Africans. On these two Enfield's I do my "experimenting" and leave the other Enfield's alone.
As a side note, both my shooters have closely matched chambers and adjusted head space and fired neck sized ammunition is interchangeable between the two rifles.
They are marked as follows: SA & MG A DIA .297
MO 6/58 REG NO 4171

I have numbers 4171 through 4183 with the exception of the following 4178,4180 and 4182.
I'll get onto my gauge maestro man on Tuesday. The diameters themselves aren't very useful. It's the SM markings on them that I really need.
