this will be my first k98 ever! My grandpa gave me an almost perfect complete bayonet for a k98 years ago that he brought home. now i might be getting a rifle for it. it has the eagle marks on it and german writing on it. and it looks fine enough for what i want but how can i tell what exactly it is? I think it has more than one eagle over some little mark on it. anyone?
If you buy/borrow the book "Mauser Military Rifle Markings" by Terence W. Lapin (Hyrax Publisher, LLC, ISBN 0-9676896-3-5) you will soon realize that the field of Mauser markings is far too complex for anyone to answer your question without further information. Pictures please, then we can help!

Get a few pics if you can. If you cant post pics, we'll need to know the letters and numbers on top of the receiver ring at a minimum. The Germans stamped pretty much every part with a marking just fyi. Depending on what mauser it is, it may be important to see what model is stamped on the left side of the receiver as well, such as Gew98, G24t, G29/40, etc.Quote:

Compare them against what you have to see if it resembles any of them. ;)
