To finish my Savage Restoration, I have one last obstacle, the sight blade which is Savage is sitting within the non adjusting Lee Barrel Mount as to the Lee sight which is in the Tool adjustable Savage barrel mount. If anyone knows a trick to get them out please let me know, thank again. This Forum is a lifesaver.
No4 sights either have a grub screw in front that must be loosened, or are just in a dovetail that you use a brass punch and drift out. PB Blaster will loosen the crud.
Thanks for the insight, I will try the oil and knock it out of there, it appears the savage blade may be too big in there, i was thinking of heating it a bit too but will try this morning, thanks again.
If you don't have the reverse slotted screw in the foresight base, then drifting(rapping and tapping) it out is the only way to remove it short of obtaining a "screw press" tool made for such tasks. There's several options there, ranging from fabricating your own, to commecial tools, to the original military issue.
Armourers had a special set of tools in their basic tool kit for just this task. It consisted of a screwdriver to remove the foresight protectors, a brass drift and a small hammer. They were pretty effective and I never had one that failed
Remember there are four different sight blades and two different foresight block bands. They need to match for correct fit.
