Looks like the forend has been severely sanded down- note how the trigger guard is proud of the wood...a lot of wood is missing here. Also the finish is indicative of the original patina having been all sanded off.Quote:

Look at the bluing - or lack thereof - on the handguard ring and front handguard cap, compared with the rest of the parts. Front handguard isn't properly fitted. The wood does look sanded. I suspect that the rifle is a restoration, a restocked sporter.
