Ducking for cover. That tommy gunner has an interesting TSMG.....Frank
Note no buttstock and a '28 with Cutts and Lyman. I wonder how he hooked the sling up? I see they're still wearing leggings, I wonder if neckties too?
Did anyone notice the two magazines taped together so when one runs out, it can be reversed for a full one? I have seen M1 Carbines in action with that arrangement, but never a TSMG.
This is about the fourth pic I have seen of a combat TSMG with no buttstock attached. That sort of changes our perception of how these weapons were used in combat. I have always known that the long stock made them inconvenient to carry and I guess these guys knew it for sure and got rid of them
:wave:.
Yes I noticed, we tried to discourage that because;
1 It made the whole thing much heavier.
2 If you lost a mag, you lost two.
3 It made the prone profile of the shooter much higher.
4 While prone you were subjecting the open mag to whatever was beneath you.
Reference the stock, I've shot my share of Thompson and I don't mind the stock. It gives you a point of ballance for point shooting. The thing about them is they tend to rattle when a bit worn. I wonder if that was what this thing you mention is about. It's hard to sneak when your Thompson's giving you away. Remember the M1 had a fixed stock so that ended the rattle.
