A friend of mine picked up an old commando dagger with sheath recently. It is marked Wilkinson and has an FS on the blade. He got it at a yard sale, could it be a WW2 issue knife and if so what could be an approximate value. No pics but it is in decent shape and nobody has tried to grind it or use it as a prybar. Any feedback would be appreciated.

First go to the F/S Knife site listed above. If you have a knife with acid etched F/S and Wilkinson sword markings it may be a WWII Pattern II Fairbairn-Sykes dagger. If complete with the correct brown leather sheather, with a blade length of at least six and three quarters inches and in good condition without pitting figure $400 or more. Like the man said, we need pictures. There are reproductions of this famous knife with acid etching as well. You could have a WWII blade in a post war sheath. Or a postwar knife in a WWII sheath. The variations on this knife are numerous. Books by Leroy Thompson, Ron Flock will help. The best book is Allied Fighting Knives by Robert Buerlien of the American Historical Society in Richmond , Virginia. He is an expert as are the others. Good luck.
