The foresight block is secured to the barrel with a pin and soft solder. If it's been removed before it may not be soldered now. I have replaced two in the past, only trouble is driving that tiny pin out without killing the pin punch.
I've removed and replaced a few and haven't noticed any solder. The tapered pin is driven out from left to right.
Hi Steve H.
When you replaced the block on the barrel was it a tight fit? Did you use any tools during the process?
Thanks
Dan
They should be a pretty tight fit. I use a brass punch and a medium size rock. A little oil helps.
If it was a good tightish fit, then it was tapped on and secured by the taper pin. If it was loose, and many were, then the barrel lugs would be tinned and the inside of the block band cleaned out and fluxed. Then heat the two, slide on, align the taper pin hole, insert pin and allow to cool. It'll remain fixed for ever
I was always told that removing the taper pin the wrong way could pucker the barrel which would then bulge at that point. But while I saw many barrels with bulges in the muzzle, I don't really believe that it was caused by the taper pin puckering the barrel
Thanks, Peter. I learn something almost every time I read this forum. Too bad I didn't pay this much attention in school...
