Do you store/display your rifle with all the accessories (sight cover, bayonet, sling, and oiler) or just leave it naked?
Does having the sling on the rifle harm the sling? The reason I ask is I have seen some slings that are on there nice and tight and have been on there for decades and the slings look great with no cracking.

I don't usually install the sight cover, although I like the looks. Taking it off and on scratches the barrel. I have some rifles with slings, but keep them slightly loose.
i dont display mine anymore, years ago, i learned that people would love to take what i have, and others that send me to work on, i have a couple large safes, and only 2 guns are outside them, one loaded 870 in my bedroom, and a loaded Stevens 720 clunker in my shop.
iv actually had a pistol pointed at me years ago while i was in my shop, by a punk from down the street, had no idea who i was, and got wierd do to the fact that him pointing a LLama at me, just made me mad, and didnt make me scared.
told him to point that thing someplace else, or id take it from him and give it to him as a enema..
looking back,,im lucky the kid didnt shoot me, i was working as a bouncer at a bar at the time, so i had the big tough guy thing going..
glad the guy accross the street was bright enough to call the law..or im might be taking the dirt nap.
I also have a gun safe, but that's what I do, regarding front sight protectors and slings.
When displayed I attach the parts and pieces I like to see. I do have several display cases on the walls since I finally realized that keeping everything in the safe derives me of my collection as much as a thief would. (everything goes in the safe when I am out of town for more then a day or so and I have a peace officer who lives across the street and parks his cruiser in plain sight.)
As for sight protectors (on 1903s) I use an oiled paper between the barrel and SP to keep scratches down and I never remove it. I usually store cleaning kits in the butt since that is were they belong. Never had a problem. Slings stay on the rifle for the most part.
I wax all of my guns with micro-crystaline wax and it seems to work.
I have a friend who has a 12x16 room with every usable space, other than two chairs and an end table, covered with his collection, including the ceiling - big vinyl covered hooks. It is awesome! Oh, and the closet is full with a wall to wall rack.
Since jdmcomp brought it up, what do you guys put on your rifles to keep the rust off. I've been using Sheath. Is there something better I should be using like Rem-oil or Break-free?

i store mine in a silicone gunsock..most gunstores, sell them.
My favorite way of showing my 03/A3's is with the cocking piece all the way back to annoy the anal retentive safety freaks out there. ;)
i usually remove lens caps from the snipers as leather and metal (particularly brass) don't get along well.
Everthing is out of sight now but when i used to used old modifield glass front book cases i had the inserts set up to angle the receivers to the outside. A row of trigger guards may look ok in the barracks arms rack but its pretty dull otherwise. :)
