Are we running a 'book' on the end price ?
If we look what prices the individual parts (scope, mounts, tin) have been going for, I reckon it could 'top' £2000.
Any advance ?
How did it end up in Malta ?
I love the case.
Surprisingly, Malta has some cool stuff, particularly NFA (MGs and such). It is my understanding you can own the stuff there, you just can't shoot it. Being an island, there isn't much outside market for the firearms so prices aren't that bad either. This is my recollection only, from hearsay, qualified with the fact that I'm over 40 now and drank alot in college, thus my memory.....
Well some one has the money, and placed a bid.
Went for !,500.
Only one person bid.
I suppose the year (1946) would have put some off - difficult to match to a rifle and it's location too...
I've seen one apparently genuine rig with a 1946 scope on a 44 rifle, although all the others were on 1945 rifles. It's only a rough rule of thumb, but in my experience, where scopes are dated they are usually dated the same year as the rifle or the year after (on genuinely matching rigs) - though I'm sure plenty of fellow forummers will be able to quote differently!
