Ishapore 2A1 problem.

I've recently got an Ishapore 2A1 and am very happy with it - apart from one small problem. When I fire it (using 1990s Radway Green) the rear handguard pops off, enough to force up the rear site an inch or so.

I've looked at how it attaches and I note that the rear clip seems to grip the barrel just where it begins to flare. I was wondering whether I should sand a bit of wood off the front, so it'll sit further forward, but wanted to check with the knowledgeable folks here before taking such an irreversible step.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. :)

FWIW the rear edge of the handguard is generally even with or not more than about 1/16" aft of the front of the receiver ring.

Post a photo, so we can see if there is something wrong. A handguard shouldn't normally pop off when firing - either with a strong spring, or even where half the spring has rusted away. Maybe someone replaced the hanguards with new items and didn't adjust them to fit properly?

Thanks, Chaps. Pictures are, of course, a good idea. Now that I've repossessed the camera from SWMBO, here are some. Apols if it's too many.

In order, they are:
Right1 shows a poor fit with the front handguard
left1 shows a better fit on the other side
top is a top view with it fully seated
Inside is... well... the inside.
Fit shows how the rear lines up at the receiver ring.
and Left2 shows it raised up.

Nothing in your pictures jumps out as being really unusual-could it be just a weak clip? I wonder if somehow the guard is not positioned low enough for the clip to properly grip the barrel. For comparison, a more perpendicular shot of a 2A1 showing the relationship of the guard and backsight bed.

I'm w/ Steve H. here- looks like a weak or "non-springy" clip as the legs are rather spread out. It ought to be quite difficult to pull the rear h/g upwards w/ just finger pressure, most folk like to use a little extra prying action, although I don't recommend it.

Problem is, if you can bend the legs inward, that means they'll bend right back when installed. If they're properly "springy" then if you try to bend them any great amount, they'll probably break off!

If you can borrow another known "good" one for your next trip to range, it might answer the quesion of whether it's the h/g or something else...

It does lift off quite easily, which you say it shouldn't. I see that Springfield Sporters has both rear handguards and clips for the No.1 Mk.III listed fairly cheap, so I might try buying one of each and trying them out - though the clip might get me into asking questions about the right rivets, etc...
