Original SA (Massachusetts) M14 Magazines

I need an M14 expert/collector to educate me on original SA (Massachusetts) 20 round magazines. Scarcity? Worth? Desirability? I have an original unopened twin pack of magazines dated 7/65 and am just wondering.

I would check this site. I have seen this fellow posting on several sites and he has written several books on M1A's and M-14's. He has also published much about the magazines used by these fine weapons. If you search his site you will find a section about the magazines, identification and values. He will probably respond to emails, at least he used to.

Can you post a picture of the wrapper? Mostly all SA magazines were sub contracted. I think the only SA marked magazines were for the T44E4. You wrapper may show me which magazine you have. Just because there is a 1965 date, does not mean it was SA.

I have the same type of packaging, but undated, which indicates earlier. All mine were Killen Machine Tool. I doubt you have any SA marked magazines.

I like your magazines. They are a nice collectible.

SA test fired a given number of magazines out of each batch. Back then they kept track of which magazines were tested. Here is one that had test magazines packed for issue:

Bill - If I understand correctly, if the test firing was done at SA and the final packaging is SA (the packaging is the same for fired and unfired and have the same type inventory cards in the packs that read "Springfield Armory") the magazines themselves in each pack could be from various subcontractors?

If I recall my "see inside" packed magazines are Killen. The heat sealed pack (had two of them) were Union Hardware Corp. Foolishly in the mid 1970's I had several and opened them up for sale without checking the markings. In those days a packed magazine was hard to sell because of possible rust.

I only know of these two contractors who provided magazines for SA, but there is a chance that others exist.
