REL No.42 telescope
I'm not much for plugging auctions but there's an REL No.42 scope for sale on Ebay UK. That's an exceptionally rare piece of optics and could be put to good use repairing an REL No.32 scope. The condition looks excellent too. If you've got an REL scope in need, you ought to seriously consider it as they don't bring huge amounts of money like the No.32 scopes do.
-
Actually not as rare as you might think Brian. Wise Optics in Stafford had dozens and dozens of them, and they ended up somewhere in the UK. I bought probably a dozen off him myself.
Someone's sitting on them.

Stafford........... where Milsurps. Stafford in England or Canada or where...... If they've now gone to ground, then they're back to being rare beasts again!
-
I realize the No.42's aren't that rare but the ones made by REL can't be that common. There is someone in London sitting on a stash of them.
-
I wonder how many are brand new, still in the wrap with the original (?) 1951 inspection label still attached AND the original eye caps and more importantly, available!
-
-
Still in the wrap? Not this one.

Wise Optics, Marsh St. Stafford, UK.
Now gone and owner Peter Wise now deceased I understand. Someone around there or in his family might know where his stock went.

Ah, yes..... You've answered your own question surpmill. They went to XXXXXXX and they're not for sale. Quite why, no one seems to know but I heard that they were going to be made into Mk3's in the future. We'll see... In the meantime, if you have a needy REL Mk1 or 2 with the special duplo convex Ocular lenses and matched erectors ........................
