No 4 MK 1 Mfg help

I have a no 4 mk 1 with a 'BW' stamp on the receiver dated 1944. I checked the links for which manufacturer 'BW' would be but could not find one. Also, this rifle has a magazine matching the serial # on the receiver also marked 'BW'.

Also a few curious things.... it appears to have a replacement stock and upgraded mk II sight, but the trigger is still the old Mk 1. Also the side of the receiver does not have any rebuild marks etc... Please let me know what pics you would like to see to help me identify this rifle.

But first, does anyone know who this 'BW' manufacturer is?

I checked the links for markings and only see that 'BW' is for Black Watch which is a unit marking. The 'BW' on my receiver is on the left side where normally the manufacturer would be.

icraker, I'm pretty sure that the only manufacturer that used BW in 1944 is Maltby. If the first digit in the numerical portion of the S/N is a 1, it is a Maltby.

Something tickles my memory that the "B" stamps were for assembliers of rifles from parts from other manufacturers during wartime needs. I can't base this on anything at the moment. Maybe someone else can look into this. My surfing is limited here at work.....chris3

ROF Maltby is the only one that would have used BW in the serial number.
