No4 Mk1 received
I just received my No4 MK1 from Classic Arms and I am happy but disappointed in a major way. I received what I consider a very nice rifle, wood is very good, not beat up too bad, metal is good, screws not bugger up. Now you are wondering so what is wrong, well as far as I can figure the importer CIA scrubbed the left side of the receiver and stamped a serial number on there with all the other junk required by law. So I don't have the original manufacturing information. Also on ther left side is an original date of 1943 with some funny characters that I can't quite make out. Is there any way to indentify more information as to which factory made this, any specific location where information may be hidden???:ugh:

Pictures of the left side of the action including the socket where the butt is attached would help with identification

CAI does not scrub off original markings(it is additional work and expense). Usually they are so faint as to be very hard to see. Try a strong light and a magnifying glass, I think that you will find the original markings are still there.

I really checked out the Butt socket today and found out more information.
Top line looks like M 47, 2nd line 1943, serial really really faint is E5598.
Matches the bolt which has a bunch of different character before the E5598,
looks like an A with the first character like an anchor or symbol.
Really surprised to the condition of the wood, really nice, screws are great shape. When I pulled the butt plate off, found an oil soak rag that was used for cleaning in there. Pretty happy now that I have the real serial number. I guess the original was in such bad condition, they assigned a new number.
