Brownell's changed to their "new formula" Dicropan IM (hot water bluing solution) a few years ago. This is a long shot, but does anyone know what was changed? I am looking for a bottle of the old formula, if you have some and can part with it, let me know PM?

I had a Browning Superposed to do. All the products I had would blued the top and side ribs just fine in 3 apps. As many as 12 apps and the barrels would only be a dull grey color. Called Brownells and they suggested the "new" IM formula. Sent me a bottle for free to try out. It blued the barrels just fine. Took about 8 or 10 apps but did the job of blackening the barrels. :clap:
I now only do slow rust blueing. It takes days, but the results are VERY satisfying. After metal prep, it only takes a little time each day and you can skip a day or two if necessary. At least you don't have to hover around them constantly, taking the whole day to do the job. :super:

I appreciate the input. I learned something- many more applications of Blueing (than I have been applying) to get the desired results. I am trying to locate some old formula Dicro, and use it for a project other than Blueing.
